Tomorrow’s racing technology – systems know how as the secret of success

A stone's throw away from Robert Bosch GmbH, in Markgröningen, Swabia, the 70 employees at Bosch Motorsport work on comprehensive motor racing systems. Our key customers include teams from the DTM and Formula 3, some of whom we equip exclusively. In recent years, we have celebrated many successes with Audi in the Long Distance World Championships. We are also becoming an increasingly significant supplier to Formula 1 teams.

We have excellent contacts with the Robert Bosch GmbH research departments. The results of their basic research underpin not only the major serial production vehicles of the future, but are also tested by us for their suitability in motor racing. For instance, electronic gasoline direct injection found its way onto race tracks in this way in 2001. Its first test at the Le Mans 24-Hour Race, the most famous long distance race of all, ended in triumphant victory. Since then, every Le Mans 24-Hour Race winner has used this technology.

Another important aspect of our work is prototype construction at Robert Bosch GmbH. We wind the stators of our racing engine generators by hand. It is a skill that only few experts master. Together with extremely finely balanced rotors and special measures against heat and vibration damage, we create products that meet our standards of performance, reliability and robustness. Need an example? Since the introduction of the new DTM in 2000, there has not been a single technical generator failure, adding up to over 1,000 races without any fault!
