Episode 3: Winning the race with data

This third episode puts data at the heart of racing and shows how fundamental it is to all decisions and strategies. As the field of drivers continues to grow, Bosch faces the challenge of ensuring professional, modern telemetry by providing real-time data to everyone involved. With the LTE65 modem already successfully deployed, data can become one of the most important aspects of the race strategy. Technically connected to the LTE network, it makes all data available to everyone, everywhere. This is how Bosch demonstrates both its innovative power for motorsport and its distinctive technological expertise.

Bosch data for IMSA

Motorsport is especially all about the right strategy and an eye for every detail. The foundation of all this is data. It delivers an inside look into how the tires and engine are behaving and what the driving style is like, thereby providing the basis for important decisions in the race.

As a telemetry radio, the LTE65 modem we use is a highly flexible platform for distributing crucial race data. The applied cloud system sends all the relevant real-time data from the vehicle to the backend computers of the racing team and IMSA. This gives the race engineers all they need to make precise adjustments to the vehicle settings, and IMSA can make important decisions based on a reliable database. This is how Bosch ensures the best telemetry data possible as the basis for fair conditions in the competition.

Racing inspires people all over the world – even beyond the racetrack. With modern technology from Bosch and the use of LTE networks, data can be made available anywhere. Wherever there is access to digital cloud systems, the collected telemetry data can be received and processed worldwide.

Bosch has already been using public networks for ten years, making the technical setup for the data transmission much more efficient.

The goal of every data transfer is to achieve the best performance by ensuring a smooth flow of information on the track.

Data for the race directors

Data for the race directors

In every race, IMSA makes decisions that have a significant impact. In this context, a huge amount of information is required to make these decisions fairly and with absolute certainty. And this is precisely where Bosch's expertise plays a key role.

The technical systems of Bosch and IMSA are connected on-site on race day, so race directors can follow all the data live on a dashboard. In the event of an accident, detailed decisions can be made. All basic functions of the vehicles are shown over a line provided exclusively to IMSA. The data is then filtered as required and forwarded to the engineers and technicians involved.

With Bosch providing the data, IMSA can track all data sets live as a central authority and get a comprehensive overview of the safety and fairness of each and every race at any time.
