Racing Insights: CAS-M3 EVO – more safety through sophisticated collision avoidance

In racing, every single moment is crucial. The CAS-M3 EVO collision avoidance system from Bosch Motorsport provides drivers with important information about approaching vehicles so that they can concentrate fully on the action of the race and avoid accidents.

CAS-M3 EVO: the sixth sense for race drivers

In mixed-class racing, such as the WEC and IMSA, it is particularly challenging to keep track of all vehicles at all times. This is where the CAS-M3 EVO comes to rescue. It uses a radar sensor and a camera to detect up to 40 vehicles simultaneously and displays the four most relevant objects on a high-resolution display. This allows drivers to make safe decisions in a split second – even when visibility is poor. The system increases safety and gives drivers the ability to act quickly and strategically without being distracted from the actual racing tasks.

The CAS-M3-EVO system is fully integrated into the Bosch Motorsport tool environment and can be configured with RaceCon.

In our Tech Talk "Racing Insights", Bosch Motorsport expert Gregory Warmington explains how the CAS-M3 EVO is redefining safety in racing.

Use case: Overtaking maneuvers in mixed classes

In World Endurance Championship races, faster prototypes and slower GT cars share the same track. With the CAS-M3 EVO, GT drivers can recognize approaching vehicles with ease and know exactly when and where to make way. The system marks the position and speed of these vehicles and warns the driver soon enough before they are passed. The CAS-M3 EVO offers a decisive safety advantage, especially in poor visibility due to rain or darkness.

Precision in poor visibility

Spotlight: Precision in poor visibility

Difficult weather conditions such as rain or darkness are extremely risky in motorsports. This is precisely where the CAS-M3 EVO applies its strengths: thanks to its combination of radar and high-resolution camera, the system can precisely detect vehicles even when visibility is seriously limited and show them on the driver’s display in real time. Flashing LEDs and clearly visible markers immediately let drivers know when cars are approaching and where they are, even when heavy rain almost completely obscures visibility. This keeps the drivers safe and able to manage any situation.
