Episode 4: Delivering data for scrutineering

This fourth episode is all about scrutineering. The process forms the cornerstone of fair and equal competition conditions. The focus is not only on the physical inspection of the vehicles, but also on checking the systems and sensors that provide the underlying data. Bosch is responsible for the correct functioning of these sensors and provides IMSA with basic information in the form of data. In the end, reliable statements can be made as to whether the technical condition of the vehicles is within the defined specifications and complies with IMSA rules.

Bosch data for IMSA

Scrutineering in racing ensures compliance with the regulations through reliable checks and creates an equal playing field for all competitors.

Bosch is responsible for the underlying scrutineering system at IMSA races and ensures that all sensors function correctly and are properly calibrated before each race.

Even highly complex vehicle types can thus be monitored in a targeted manner.

Bosch can look back on many years of successful partnership with IMSA and is an integral part of the North American racing series.

Eric Haverson

The partnership with Bosch has been fantastic over the last couple of years. They are so integral to what we do.

Data provision for the series

Data provision for the series

Bosch is firmly integrated into the IMSA scrutineering process. Bosch has developed a scrutineering system for the racing teams that is installed in all race cars across both categories.

As race organizers, IMSA sets the regulations and Bosch then designs the appropriate system to provide the necessary data. For example, the energy in GTP vehicles will be measured at the torque sensors in real time on a millisecond basis.

Bosch takes on the challenge of being responsible for a total of 46 vehicles and acts as an intermediary between the teams to ensure that the systems function correctly and as expected. Sensor signals are checked and the process is monitored. The greatest sense of achievement alongside victorious placings: providing the series with valuable data.

Data for race control

Data for race control

The greatest asset of every race: safety – because racing drivers invest their greatest passion in racing. Bosch contributes to this asset through safety inspections and ensures that everything is configured correctly at every race.

Not only do common components such as belt loops and roll cages count as safety functions in the vehicle, but parameters such as tire pressure also determine a large part of safety in the race. Bosch ensures that reliable values are transmitted and provides important information, even in emergency situations.

The provision and distribution of basic safety information represents an enormous challenge that would be almost impossible to overcome without countless volumes of data.
